244th History 1980 |
The 252nd Combat Communications Group received the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for the period 1 January to 31 December 1980, with the 244th Combat Communications Squadron sharing in the honor. This was the second award for the 244th as well as the 252nd.
The 252nd Combat Communications Group also received the AFCC Air National Guard Outstanding Unit Achievement Award for 1980, and the 244th also shared in this award. Major General Robert T. Herres, Commander, Air Force Communications Command, cited in his announcement that the 244th 's participation in Team Spirit and Gallant Eagle JCS exercises was an example of extraordinary professionalism.
The 244th Combat Communications Squadron received an EXCELLENT rating on their Mission Effectiveness Inspection (MEI).
This year personnel from the 244th took advantage of the opportunity to go to Korea for exercise Team Spirit 80. Personnel were deployed to Osan AB, Cheong Ju AB and Kimhae AB, Korea.
Personnel of the 244th participated in JCS exercise Gallant Eagle 80, Fort Irwin, California, March 1980. The 244th received the United States Readiness Command Joint Readiness Certificate for Professional Performance.
Chief Master Sergeant Bob J. Mitchell was selected as the Outstanding Unit Senior NCO, as well as the Oregon Air National Guard Outstanding Airman of 1980.
