244 Combat Communications Squadron

In April and May 1993, four members of the active duty 366^th Communications Squadron at Mountain Home AFB, ID, came to Portland IAP to familiarize themselves with mobile communications equipment used by the 244^th Combat Communications Squadron of the ORANG. They were trained on equipment that has been in the inventory of the 244^th for some time but is new to the 255^th. This event is noteworthy because the regular Air Force usually trains Guardsmen instead of Guardsmen training regular Air Force members.

On 29 June 1993 Oregon Air National Guard Captain Charles A. Moose was sworn in as the Chief of Police for Portland, Oregon. Captain Moose's promotion was the headline story for the 26 June 1993 edition of "The Oregonian", Oregon's largest daily newspaper. Captain Moose has been with the Portland Police Department since 1975. He moved to Portland from North Carolina. While rising through the ranks of the Police Department, Capt. Moose has served as the Precinct Captain, and Deputy Chief of Police Operations. He attended the FBI National Academy at Quantico, Virginia in 1988. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in History from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Portland State University and is currently working toward a PhD from Portland State in Criminology.

Capt. Moose was given a small celebration by the 244th CCSQ on the 26-27 June UTA. Upon learning of his selection to Chief of Police for Portland, Lt Col Wayne A. Green presented Capt Moose with a very large Hallmark Card signed by members of the 244th along with festive balloons and a cake for the event.

Hood to Coast TEAM '93

The 244th CBCS formed a Team of enthusiastic runners. While the 244th Combat Communications Squadron "TEAM '93" finished among the final 50 teams competing, it was a great effort for having never run the Hood to Coast previously. They were sponsored by the NCO Academy Graduates Association and named after their moto, "Dic Quando et Ubi" (Say When and Where).
